We’ve asked the modeling agencies for you!
Our Instagram is constantly flooded with direct messages from people who are curious about certain topics. Many of you want to know: How do I become a Plus Size Model? Modeling can sometimes look like a mysterious and exclusive industry that only accepts a certain type of look, but the modeling industry is shifting and evolving everyday. Plus Size and Curvy Models are wanted now more than ever before. But how do you get into the business? We asked the experts for you – the modeling agencies themselves! We’ve spoken to Franziska Rothman, from Rothman Models, and Heike Wiese, from CN Modelmanagement, who both cast Plus Size models themselves and therefore know the facts.
What do you pay special attention to with Plus Size Models?
Heike Wiese: That the girls really feel comfortable in their skin and like to be in front of the camera. This applies to all models not only Plus Size. That is very important. There are beautiful girls, who do not feel so well in their own body and that becomes noticeable in front of the camera and then also on the photo.
What requirements do I have to meet?
Franziska Rothman: Personality and charisma are very important. The body proportions (top to bottom) should be as balanced as possible and the minimum height must be right.
What are the minimum sizes?
Heike Wiese: The minimum height is 1,75m with us. The minimum dress size for a Plus Size Model is 42.
Is there a minimum or maximum age?
Heike Wiese: Minimum – maximum age is actually only for beginners, otherwise any age group can model. For beginners there is a minimum age of 16 years until mid-20’s. There are of course exceptions.
Franziska Rothman: With us the minimum age is 16 years, we have no maximum age.
Do I need previous experience?
Franziska Rothman: No, that is not necessary.
Should a beginner already have professional photos taken for her portfolio?
Heike Wiese: No, that is not necessary. Preferably very simple photos that friends or family can take, in a T-shirt and jeans. Selfies are not so advantageous.
Are there open castings or do I simply send my application directly to the model management?
Franziska Rothman: Rothman Models, for example, has an open call regularly, so always look at the website and social media! Most agencies also have (like us) an application form on their website.
What role does Instagram play if I want to become a model?
Heike Wiese: Instagram Account is a MUST. All customers always ask for the Instagram accounts of the models. It is an important decision factor when choosing a model.
Do you have any other tips for me?
Self-love, stamina, discipline and a balanced, healthy lifestyle always pays off.
