This week’s Women We Love is Yumi Nu, a plus-size model, singer, songwriter, and influencer.
I have been following Yumi on Instagram for a while now, and I find so much inspiration from her! Not only does she have an amazing fashion sense, but she also uses her platform to speak about mental health struggles, body positivity, inclusivity, social justice issues, and much more.
In addition, Yumi Nu is on the latest issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine which is a huge deal! In an Instagram post, Yumi discusses what it’s like to be a part of SI as a curvy Asian woman: “I’ve grown very passionate in recent years in talking about the body shame that Asian women and women in general go through, because it was something that was very difficult for me growing up. I don’t want anyone to go through life with the lie that they aren’t enough as they are. It stops us from living our fullest lives. WE ARE WORTHY!!!”
Multi-faceted model
Yumi Nu is an up-and-coming model in the fashion industry. She was recently in Paris walking for the new Jacquemus collection which is major!!! In addition, she is also in the new and inclusive H&M June swim line campaign with other well-known plus-size models like Palomija Elsesser. If that weren’t enough, she also appears on the July Beauty Awards issue for British Vogue. You could definitely say that Yumi is making moves!
Aside from her modeling career, Yumi is also an emerging singer and songwriter. Her latest single ‘Pots and Pans’ was released just a few days ago! Her cousin, Steve Aoki, also happens to be a world-renowned DJ — so it seems like music and popularity runs in the family.
Inspiration
Yumi is breaking boundaries and stereotypes in the fashion and modeling industry, and I couldn’t be prouder and more excited for her and everyone that looks up to her, including me. I love following her page because she is genuine, informative, creative, stylish, kind, and so much more! Her pictures give me a ton of outfit inspiration and her IDGF attitude just makes everything so much better! My favorite thing about Yumi is that she seems to be so unapologetically herself, and it is truly inspiring.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about this week’s ‘Women We Love,’ Yumi! Follow her on Instagram for more cute, outfit pictures.
