These three sustainable brands offer you fair, transparent and fashionable alternatives to high-street goods.
Sustainability plays a tremendously important role in our lives and our awareness of the environment is constantly growing. Whether it’s thinking about our ecological footprint, deciding what food we consume or even what clothes we wear – a sustainable lifestyle is not that easy. Nevertheless, we can all do a little something to appreciate our planet a little more.
Today we’re introducing 3 brands that produce beautiful and sustainable clothing which is also made in large sizes. Thanks to the transparency of these brands, we will also explain what makes the clothing sustainable which might help you in the future when looking for environmentally conscious brands.
1. Sustainable fashion by Stefanie Giesinger at Nu-In Fashion
Info: Nu-In is the sustainable brand of GNTM winner Stefanie Giesinger and her boyfriend Marcus Butler. The two founded Nu-In in 2019 and have since shown that sustainable, trendy and affordable prices are compatible.
Sizes: Under the “Extended Sizes” tab, you’ll find a selection of pieces from size 46 to 54, with the rest of the collection running up to 44 or XL.
Style: Nu-In Fashion could be described as trendy basics. While you’ll find all your classics here, from simple t-shirts, to knit dresses, to hoodies and jeans, many pieces have a sophisticated cut, exciting textures or cool colors. Nu-In is simple and cool at the same time.
Price: Nu-In’s prices are definitely fair and not overpriced. A sweater made of organic cotton and recycled polyester for 39,90€ is totally fine.
Sustainability: Being 100% sustainable seems almost impossible, but Nu-In makes every effort to make as many aspects as possible environmentally friendly. The brand tries to contribute to circular fashion by using recycled materials, eco-friendly packaging and fair working conditions. On top of that, Nu-In’s production and ethos is very clear and visible on the website.
2. Favie Fashion – sustainable & a great selection
Info: Favie Fashion is the online department store for curvy women from founder Sarah. In the store you can find various brands from the USA, England, France and the brand itself, Favie. Since 2018 Sarah enriches the plus-size community with a wide selection of pieces and inspirational self-love content.
Sizes: Favie has a large focus on plus sizes and offers almost all styles from size 44 to 54.
Style: Thanks to the versatile repertoire, you can find something for every style at Favie. There are cool shirts and hoodies with creative prints, which were created through blogger collaborations, among other things. In addition, there are casual and also elegant skirts and pants, the perfect dresses for us curvies, bikinis and a handful of fancy pieces. Favie offers you the best of all worlds on one platform.
Price: Favie can be categorized in the high-priced category, but it can be justified. Many pieces are produced outside of Germany, are made with love and convey innovative designs.
Sustainability: Each sustainable item is marked with a small green tag and information about the materials and production conditions can be found under the “Sustainability” tag. In addition, Favie ships all items in compostable “dirtbags” or recycled cardboard boxes. Favie is taking another step towards sustainable fashion with “Plus Babes Vintage”. The website features a small second-hand store with authentic vintage items from the 60s to the 00s, offering another alternative to fast fashion.
3. Sustainable and timeless: Dariadéh
Info: Dariadéh was created in 2017 by Madeleine Darya Alizadeh, after she retired her blog dariadaria and decided to dedicate herself to sustainable fashion. With the goal of producing affordable, timeless and high-quality clothing, Dariadeh is constantly working on the dream of a more conscientious fashion world. In addition, for each order placed, 0.50€ is donated to charity. Not bad!
Sizes: All styles are available in sizes XXS to XXXL.
Style: Dariadéh is characterized by timeless simplicity and earthy tones.
Price: Here too, quality has its price, which many are willing to pay. True to the motto quality over quantity, Dariadéh offers clothing that convinces with fabric, design, cut and is made to last for a long period of time.
Sustainability: You won’t find polyester at Dariadéh, instead all styles are made of organic cotton, recycled cotton, Lyocell (Tencel ™) and environmentally friendly elastane (Roica® V550). Production takes place in small family-run factories in Portugal, and fabric scraps are used in various projects and sewn into scrunchies or menstrual pads. So, everything has been thought of.
I’m sure there are plenty of other sustainable brands for plus sizes, but these three have caught my eye lately and won me over with variety, style and inclusion.
Also, don’t forget that in various online stores you have the possibility to filter for sustainable styles. It’s nice to see that the selection is getting bigger and bigger and more and more plus-size brands are paying attention to sustainable production methods and environmentally friendly materials. Brands with sustainable styles and good size assortment include: ONLY Carmakoma, Adidas, Vero Moda Curve, Ulla Popken, Süperb, Even&Odd and many more. So, it doesn’t take much to do something good for us and the environment – have fun with sustainable shopping!
