“I need to get rid of my Corona weight” – why we don’t want to hear this anymore and why you already have the perfect post lockdown body.
One thing is for sure: we’ve all had enough of the lockdown. Sitting in cafés and chatting with friends, lying by the lake and letting the sunshine on our bellies, partying at concerts… it sounds surreal by now, but that’s exactly the life we’re all missing.
Lockdown kilos as a running joke
Pandemic time is not easy for anyone and it affects everyone differently. Some people have baked like crazy, exercised more than before, or read half a library. Others have stayed in bed wondering how they’re going to endure another day without social contact or have been plagued by fears about the future. Some people have gained a kilo or two. Fitness studios are therefore already advertising that you can get rid of them there after the lockdown. Photos of supposed pandemic fat rolls and jokes about lockdown kilos are circulating on Instagram. And the jewelry label Purelei even got a huge shitstorm last November because of a joke like this.
Every body is a beach body
Now that there seems to be a possibility of lockdown ending, we’re starting to think of our summer plans and what it will look like. In the process, thoughts might creep in not having the ‘ideal’ – whatever that is – beach body this year. Because really, we know that to have a beach body, you only need one thing: a body, and a good bathing suit of course. On the other hand, what your body looks like shouldn’t matter, but it’s easier said than done.
It doesn’t help when influencers make comments and jokes about their corona kilos — we already face enough self-doubt and insecurities on our own! I’m not trying to make anybody feel bad, but constantly posting about the corona kilos as a joke can trigger some people. I’ve seen so many people posting about working out and eating healthy to get rid of the quarantine weight gain, and I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to not feel pressured to make yourself perfect, especially in the middle of a pandemic! There is too much of a social pressure to be on top of everything and look like your best self in the middle of a pandemic!
Be grateful for your body
At the same time, we should all be focusing on what we have and what we can be grateful for: Our health, and our bodies that hustle every day for us to get through the pandemic unscathed. We agree with bodyposipanda: you already have the perfect lockdown body!
