If you haven’t already fallen into the TikTok trap, it’s not too late. But let me warn you beforehand, it may be addictive! Curvy and plus-size content creators are using TikTok and Instagram reels as a way of challenging the fashion and beauty industry by creating body positive fashion-trend videos, clothing hauls, “realistic” plus-size hauls, etc.
If you didn’t already know, TikTok is a video-sharing social networking platform that gained a lot of momentum around the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Since then, people have had a lot of time on their hands to get creative. I’ve discovered a few fun accounts to check out on TikTok and Instagram — stay tuned!
1. Remibader
I recently came across Remi’s Instagram profile and couldn’t stop laughing while watching her “realistic” try-on haul videos with brands like Brandy Melville, Revolve and Pretty Little Thing. In her videos she sheds light on the struggles curvy and plus-size women face when it comes to online shopping and inaccurate and inconsistent brand sizing.
2. Moeblackx
Moe posts the cutest videos for styling popular summer trends, summer outfit inspiration, try-on hauls, outfits plus-size girls “shouldn’t” wear, plus-size friendly brand hauls, etc.
3. Brooklyn.dallen
Brookyln Dallen is all about posting ‘how to style’ videos for curvy and plus-size fashion. Her videos feature trendy outfit inspiration for curvy girls, layering outfits, thrift store outfits, try-on hauls, etc.
4. Jaimmykoroma
Jaimmy is a fitness, lifestyle and self-love blogger. One of my favorite video series on her page fall under the ‘recreating Pinterest looks.’ She shows her viewers that people don’t have to be skinny to wear a certain outfit, and that you can be curvy or plus-size and look just as good.
5. Lotte Van Eijk
Lotte is a fashion model and self-proclaimed fat woman who is unapologetically herself. I love watching her videos because she stays true to her character and empowers not only herself, but her followers and viewers.
