It’s not always easy to wake up and feel ready to take on the day. Some days, you just want to be alone and wallow in your feelings. Maybe you stayed up too late watching something, maybe you had a little too much wine, or maybe you’re stressed out about work. Some days you just aren’t in the mood to see anyone or do anything, and that’s okay, but let me show you some tips on how to get out of a funk! Here are 10 tried and tested tips that will fuel your body and mind with good energy.
1. Breathe deeply and stretch
Have you ever noticed how much tension your body is holding when you take a deep breath and release everything through your mouth? Taking the time to breathe and stretch in the morning always helps me feel more in tune with myself. It’s a moment where I can pause, feel present, feel aware, and let go.
2. Go for a walk
When does it truly hurt to go on a walk? Don’t underestimate the power of movement, fresh air, and sunshine! When you find yourself stuck in a funk, put on your trainers, grab some headphones, then get outside and go. Whether it’s a 10-minute walk, or an hour walk, the fresh air and sunshine will open up your mind and leave you feeling energized. I always find that listening to music or a podcast while walking automatically lifts my mood because I’m able to take in all of my surroundings and just breathe.
3. Moisturize/skincare
Sometimes it can feel so satisfying to simply wash your face with cold water and moisturize after. Freshening up and moisturizing my body makes me feel like I’m at a spa, but without spending like $200 on a facial. Find a routine that works best for you! I always enjoy putting on lotion after a nice shower and then body oil for extra hydration and a wonderful smell.
4. Eat something that makes you happy
Having a coffee in the morning or my favorite breakfast is an immediate mood booster for me. Try making something you love eating and see if it helps you out. I like comfort foods like a warm bowl of porridge in the morning with a cappuccino on the side.
5. Listen to uplifting music
Listening to good music when I’m not feeling my best really helps my mood. I find that putting on my favorite song or a happy tune can instantly make me smile and feel good vibes.
6. Talk to someone you love
Talking to my roommate or best friend when I’m feeling down works wonders. It’s not always easy to socialize when you’re in a funk, but trust me, you’ll feel a lot better especially if you talk to someone you love! Sometimes you just need a little distraction or someone to make you laugh and get out of your head.
7. Dance it out
This is definitely one of my favorite tips. Sure, we’re not all great dancers, but you don’t have to be one! Just blast some good music that you can dance to and simply move your body. Shake off the bad vibes and jump around a bit!
8. Journal
Journaling your feelings or keeping a to do list can help alleviate the funk. Writing out how you feel can help you understand your feelings and serve as a guide to self-development. There are endless journaling exercises for you to practice. Sometimes I like to do a mind dump, where I just write down anything that comes to mind for a few minutes.
9. Watch something funny
Watching videos on YouTube, a comedy movie, or a funny TV show can aid as a distraction from negative thoughts. You can also look through funny memes to cheer yourself up, and you might as well share some with your best pals for a good laugh.
10. Practice your favorite hobby
Having a hobby is a helpful step toward self-development and a good mood. When you have things to do that you enjoy, you don’t feel like you’re wasting time. You’re engaged and focused on an activity that you love, which will ultimately make you feel good.
I hope that these 10 tips will help get you out of that funk!
