We asked ourselves: what’s the scent of cosmetics whose name obviously evokes the association with a stable, a „cowshed“ in this case.
Smells like Cowshed?
Plant-based cosmetics might have a peculiar smell of herbs and meadow – evoking the scent of a cowshed in some of us indeed. As much as Cowshed’s products are concerned: nearly all of them smell refreshing, with a slight scent of citrus, like the tangerine- and grapefruit-scented “Grumpy Cow”-series – reminding us anything but the habitat of Angus, Hereford, Charolais & Co.
Cowshed Natural Cosmetics – from the inside:
The label exists since 1998. From the beginning “Cowshed” has specialized in natural cosmetics. The British brand solely uses plant-based ingredients like oils, proteins, vitamins and essential fatty acids. The offer includes cremes, bath and shower essences, scented candles and a care line for pregnant women and babies – all products are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oils as well as artificial fragrances and colours and (!!!) exclude animal testing. Thus, no cow had to suffer. Therefore, Cowshed appeals to beauty lovers with a green conscience and is a “mooooooost” for vegetarians.

In 2008 the product offer was enhanced. Since then, bath accessories, wellbeing products like scarfs, snoods, bathrobes, home slippers and caps made of cosy cashmere as well as scented candles and air fresheners complement the product range – well, fresh… or rather exclusively from the cowshed. Not only the name is proof of the brand’s sense of humour. The products go hand in hand with the customers’ mood – they can choose if they’re a wild, sweet-tempered or moody cow today. In line with different moods and tempers, the products have either a relaxing, refreshing or stimulating effect.
The Brand’s Origins
Thus, why a cowshed as the namesake? The somewhat weird name of the cosmetic line “Cowshed” – that meanwhile has reached cult status – refers to its place of origin: a spa in Somerset which used to be a cowshed before. A special care line had been created for the spa, as close to nature as the original inhabitants of the extraordinary location. Meanwhile, more spas have opened their doors in London, New York, Miami, Chicago AND Berlin (!!!): guests of the famous Soho House can enjoy Cowshed facials, massages, pedicure and manicure as well as body treatments. In a rustic-modern ambiance you’d be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
